Our Challenge
Poverty remains a problem for Augusta. Helping those in need starts with providing stable shelter, the cornerstone for restoring hope and rebuilding lives. Having a safe and secure place to live, reduces the trauma and stress of homelessness, helping in the fight against poverty. This process begins at The Center of Hope.
THE FACES OF HOMELESSNESS ARE CHANGING.
Finding Solutions
In Augusta, The Salvation Army has been meeting human needs in His name without discrimination since April of 1891. When someone is hungry, The Salvation Army provides a meal. When someone has nowhere to go, The Center of Hope offers shelter. Now, the Augusta community is asking for more. Our community is calling on Augusta’s service providers to address the growing unserved population and create lasting solutions.
Designing a Better Response Together
The Salvation Army is now working to:
Improve social services assessment for clients entering the emergency shelter.
Provide extended casework opportunities for clients during and beyond their stay.
Relocate the shelter closer to other social services for better client support.
Build a facility that restores hope and encourages more people to seek help.
Strengthen Augusta’s community-of-care to offer stable, effective services for people struggling with homelessness, helping them find peace and rebuild their lives.
The Salvation Army has helped thousands reclaim their lives after losing permanent housing. Despite this success, there is still more to do. Our Augusta community is calling on us to stand together, find more solutions, and restore hope.
